I am David Waweru Kamau (Davidvid) a professional dance instructor, choreographer, performer and mentor with over 20 years of experience in dance. My areas of expertise include Hip-Hop, Breaking, Afro Dance, Afro House, Dancehall, freestyle and performance training.
Since beginning my dance journey in 2004, I have developed my practice through teaching, performing, choreography, competitions, workshops and mentorship. I work with children, teenagers and adults at different levels, from beginners discovering dance for the first time to experienced dancers preparing for performances and competitions.
My international experience spans Kenya, Switzerland, Thailand and New Zealand, where I have taught, performed, collaborated with artists and studios and worked with diverse communities. This experience allows me to bring strong technical training, cultural understanding, creativity and professional performance experience into every class and workshop.
Beyond the studio and stage, I use dance as a tool for youth development, confidence building, teamwork, discipline and creative expression. Through community programs, school activities, and outreach initiatives, I have worked with young people in different environments, including children’s homes and educational settings.
My goal is to create meaningful opportunities for people to learn, move, create, perform and grow through dance while contributing to the development of the next generation of dancers and sharing the culture of movement with wider communities.
My Story
I didn’t grow up with dance studios, mirrors, or perfect stages. I started wherever I could find space, sometimes on concrete, sometimes on grass, with nothing but music, determination and a dream.
In those early years, dance became my escape, my challenge, and my teacher. It taught me discipline, resilience, creativity and the importance of showing up, even when no one was watching.
The journey wasn’t easy. I walked long distances to practice, trained wherever an opportunity was available, faced setbacks, and kept going when the path ahead was uncertain. Every battle, performance, mistake and moment of doubt became part of the experience that shaped who I am today.
Over time, I discovered that dance could be much more than movement. It could build confidence, create opportunities, bring people together, and give young people a positive way to express themselves. That realization changed the direction of my journey. I began teaching, mentoring, choreographing and sharing the lessons that dance had taught me.
My journey has taken me across Kenya, New Zealand, Thailand and Switzerland, working with children, young people, adults, dancers, schools, studios and communities. Each experience has added something to the way I teach and the way I connect with people.
Today, my story continues through every person I teach, every routine I create, every young person I encourage and every community I connect with.
Dance gave me a voice. It taught me to believe in what is possible, even when I started with very little.
Now, I use that experience to help others move, learn, grow and believe in themselves.
